Wind Load Computation
The consulting service dedicated to the computation of wind loads on buildings or structures
Wind loads on structures depend on several variables. These variables are spread along the Davenport sizing chain, of which it is essential to master each link in the chain.
Meteodyn masters all these links and offers specific studies for each dimensioning step: the study of the climate and its evolution, the characterization of the reference wind, the local and global wind factors, the response of the structure, and the compliance with standards.
Whether in the pre-dimensioning phase of the structures or in the construction and control phase, the digital technologies employed have the result of reducing the study times. In the event of a disaster, we also offer our expertise to determine the specific weather conditions during the event.
The Wind Load service quantifies the extreme loads on the structures in order to better dimension them, by relying on high-performance unsteady digital approaches. This service is intended for contracting authorities, consulting firms and control offices.
Computation of instantaneous local loads
By simulating turbulence in its finest detail, we determine the local wind pressure on the structure, and its evolution during a storm. The determination of these forces then makes it possible to best dimension the necessary strength of the materials and the fasteners.
Computation of extreme global loads
The effects of coherence and concomitance are naturally integrated on larger portions of buildings, such as roof trusses or the whole of a portico-facade. The calculated peak forces make it possible to size the structure of the building and its foundations, following the Eurocode I standard, EN 1991-1-4.
Meteorological knowhow following a disaster
During extreme meteorological events, the study of weather records together with numerical modeling makes it possible to characterize the effective loads induced by the wind, which may be sources of possible damage to a structure.
Specific digital technology
Depending on your specific requirements, we adapt the numerical technique used: stationary approaches for site exposure (RANS* equations), or unsteady calculations that detail the storm in a continuous manner and the wind interactions with the exposed buildings and structures (LES)**.
The choice of numerical methods and calculation assumptions makes these approaches accessible to the wind engineering field. Flow and pressure field visualization tools provide the architectural design team a better understanding of the aerodynamic phenomena.
* RANS: Reynolds-average Navier-Stokes
** LES: Large eddy simulation
Master the wind loading chain
Each dimensioning link is fully mastered by considering climatic conditions, local exposure, wind loads and regulations. This avoids the oversizing of structures and the associated additional costs.
Some projects are very time sensitive. Depending on the schedule and its limitations, we adapt the tools and digital resources to best respond to the problem in the required time. The rapid deployment of resources and our team allow us to quickly meet your requirements.
