Offshore Wind Resource Assessment with SARWind®
The Challenges
-
→ My offshore site has no measurement history, and no time to build one
- No met mast, no buoy, no LiDAR record… and installing one takes months to years that my financing and permitting timelines can’t absorb.
-
→ My lenders question yield estimates built on uncorrected model data
- Without observational grounding, reanalysis data carries residual uncertainty that investors and underwriters consistently flag during due diligence.
-
→ I can’t compare wind potential across my whole lease area
- Point measurements tell me about one location, not the spatial variability I need to optimize turbine layout and avoid costly repositioning later.
SARWind®: De-risk offshore site selection with satellite-derived wind data
Our solution
SARWind® turns more than 20 years of SAR satellite observations into validated, high-resolution wind data for offshore, from early-stage site screening through to financial close.
By combining SAR imagery with in-situ data, atmospheric models and machine learning, it directly observes the wind, capturing coastal gradients, wake effects, and convective cells, that models alone often miss. Where offshore site measurements are available, they can be integrated via the MCP method to further refine accuracy.
Two complementary products address the upstream phases of your offshore project:
1. SARWind ATLAS and ATLAS+ deliver long-term wind statistics for spatial planning and risk screening across an entire zone.
2. SARWind TIMESERIES provides hourly wind speed and direction record for energy yield modeling that meets industry due diligence standards.
- ✓Validated against 28 offshore LiDARs and met masts worldwide: absolute bias of 1.9%, against 3.7% for standard mesoscale models.
- ✓Independently benchmarked by Vattenfall over five years at a North Sea met mast, confirming bankable accuracy.
