Join us to discover the new METEODYN WT Scientific Wind Sessions, a webinar series based on real wind farm projects.

The methodology used with METEODYN WT will be presented in detail on real projects carried out in collaboration with industrial partners. To accurately estimate wind resources with CFD computation, a variety of issues will be adressed, including convergence, the impact of thermal stability, the influence of METEODYN forest model, etc. These webinars will cover a variety of site characteristics, including coastal sites, complex terrain, forested areas, desert areas.

For the first webinar, a project carried out in coastal site in Japan will be presented in collaboration with Mr. Mizuki Konagaya from RERA Tech Inc.. The project is based on the Mutsu-Ogawara Metocean Observation Center (MOC), the first Japanese offshore wind test site. We will show that METEODYNWT is not only essential in complex terrain but also on flat terrain and coastal area due to thermal stability and forest influence.

Rera Tech Inc. is a Kobe University spin-off specializing in wind resource assessment. In 2024, Mr. Konagaya established the Mutsu-Ogawara Metocean Observation Center (MOC) to operate Japan’s first offshore wind test site, where he serves as a board member.

Agenda of the webinar

  1. Description of the Mutsu-Ogawara Metocean Observation Center (MOC), the first Japanese offshore/coastal wind test site.
  2. Introduction to Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) methodology in Meteodyn WT.
  3. Description of the METEODYN CFD forest model and forest calibration approach applied on this project.
  4. Influence of METEODYN WT CFD forest model on wind simulations.
  5. Description of the wind vertical calibration methodology to determine onsite thermal stability conditions.
  6. Influence of atmospheric thermal stability conditions on wind simulations.
